Niger is located in Western Africa, southeast of Algeria. Its terrain is predominately desert plains and sand dunes, flat to rolling plains in south, hills in north. The climate is desert, mostly hot, dry, dusty, tropical in extreme south. In area, the country is slightly less than twice the size of Texas.

Important agricultural products include millet, cowpeas, sorghum, onions, milk, sugarcane, cabbages, cassava, groundnuts, tomatoes (2023). Notable exports include gold, oil seeds, uranium and thorium ore, radioactive chemicals, refined petroleum (2023).
